The physical disintegration of rock, also known as physical or mechanical weathering involves the breakdown of rocks and soils through direct contact with atmospheric conditions, such as heat, water, ice, and pressure. The rapid cooling and solidification of rocks is not a process that leads to the physical disintegration of rock. Instead, it is a process that leads to the formation of igneous rocks. When magma or lava cools and solidifies rapidly, it forms a type of igneous rock
known as extrusive igneous rock.
