Let

The number of girls exceeds the number of boys by

150 \rightarrow

number of boys

=x-150

Number of girls + Number of boys

=940

\;x+x-150=940

\;2x=940+150

\;2x=1090

Divide both sides by 2 to solve for

x

x=\frac{1090}{2}=545

There are 545 girls in the school.
